How Did I Get Started Blogging?

When I first had my child, blogging was the furthest thing from my mind. It’s not that I didn’t want to do it. I just wasn’t thinking about it. I wasn’t really into reading blogs at the time. One night I was lying down and couldn’t sleep, and I started reading blogs, and I couldn’t stop. Aside from doing that, I was trying to get into finding a niche. Let me explain because I know I work for an insurance company and like working there, but I wanted to do something as a hobby.

I tried, and I’m still trying to figure out the Cricut machine, which is difficult for me. At that moment, I’m frustrated because you see everyone finding hobbies things that they love doing, and I still couldn’t. Then recently, I was talking to one of my friends who was asking me for motherly advice. After helping, they were like, you should start a blog for mothers because you have a lot of knowledge. I thought about it and looked into it.

Blogging for Free

So, when I was looking into blogs heavily, I started by looking at all different kinds of mom blogs such as At Home With NatalieBlack Moms Blog, and Mater Mea. So I had every intention of blogging for free when I was doing my research. After seeing the different blogging websites, I got on TikTok (as I do almost every day). For some reason, I typed in blogging mom and started watching videos of people talking about blogging for Google. This means making money blogging by using Google for SEO. When I tell you that, this absolutely blew my mind.

Blogging for money! Here’s the thing I am a part of the moms who work from home, so blogging for the type of money they’re talking about is unreal. Especially with the spunky child, I am dealing with. Mom life, right? To do something that wouldn’t take too much time away from her, I was excited. Don’t get me wrong, blogging does take up a lot of time. Just not as much as a second job or something that would require a lot of orders and shipping.

Make Money Blogging

After days of looking up everything on blogging, I said to myself, “Okay, you’ve done everything that you can as far as research now it is time to put it into action.” So I came across a mom who gives you step-by-step details on how to start making money on blogging. This also gives you information on how to start a blog in general. Her name is Cassie Scroggins (click to go to the exact page), and not only does she tell you how to start your blog, but she also gives you some freebies. Live by her list this has helped me so much. Even when I was stuck, I would revert back to her guide, which would help me.

Also, another great blog that tells you about how to start blogging and how to make money as well her blog is called Twins Mommy. She not only gives you step-by-step details, but she also gives you visuals. Not only that, but she gives you the why. This may seem important to those who cannot do something effectively unless they know how to know why you’re doing something.

Blogging Socially

One of the things that I am still learning is how to blog for social media. Don’t get me wrong, I consider myself to be an extrovert. I can meet and have a conversation with just about anyone. That’s the thing, though, blogging and promoting your blog on your blog page and interacting with people on your personal page is entirely different. I take pride in minding my own business and not pressing my opinions on people unless they ask for it. Which when you are trying to promote your blog, you can’t do that.

You have to be able to talk to people and promote yourself at the same time. Basically, selling yourself, and that’s where I struggle. I don’t want to feel like I am bothering people. I started to listen to a podcast called Mom Blogging Unplugged. While she hasn’t made a podcast episode under this title in a while, she has fellow bloggers as guest speakers, giving excellent points. Such as getting attention to your blog and what they have done to gain engagement.

Blogging Secrets

Okay, I know there might be some people that are really wanting to blog. You’re probably doing your research, and other people are probably asking you what you are waiting on. Well, if you’re anything like me, then I know exactly what you’re looking for. You’re looking for a sign, something to tell you that you shouldn’t do it. Anything that might give you any indication that will have you like okay well I considered it, but I am done with that.

I am here to tell you to do it! Yes, it’s true blogging is not something that is easy. As a matter of fact, there are days that I really want to say you know what I’m. not blogging today. Then those days would turn into weeks or months even. While I might not feel like blogging for that day, I still do it because I feel like I need to. Blogging is sort of an outlet to me. It gets out my feelings that I have like a journal. Also, to know that other people might feel the same way that I do or that I am helping someone makes me happy. If you’re anything like me, this might be enough for you to say cool sign me up.

Just in case it’s not. You never know. Some people might need to hear the “downsides” so they can know what they are dealing with. They might need to know if the good outweighs the bad. So, I am going to tell you some blogging secrets, things that no one talks about that come with blogging.

Number 1: Finding a Niche is Not Always Easy.

Not everyone wants to talk about motherhood all day. I get that it’s totally understandable. For some people, when you think about doing something as a hobby writing about motherhood is not something you have in mind. The thing is, there are tons of other niches out there. What do you like to do? Write about whatever your heart desires to trust me; someone will read it.

Number 2: Blogging Takes Time

I know, I know I stated this above, but I feel like I need to reiterate this and go into detail. You do have to do research. You have to ask yourself, hey, is this something of importance that is going to help people. Some blogs you can’t write in a day and hope that it’s a good one. You might start writing a blog about one thing, and then the next day, you start thinking it’s absolutely a bad idea and scratch it out. Plus, if you have kids and a full-time job, you can’t just work on a blog at every waking moment. You have to manage your time.

Number 3: Blogging is NOT Free

I am going to explain this a little bit further. Blogging is absolutely free if you are just blogging for pleasure and not to make money. If you’re blogging to make money, then you have to pay for hosting. Owning your blog’s name as well as learning the ends and outs of blogging for money. Then you have to pay to get help with SEO; there are courses, websites, books, you name it, they got it, and it cost money. It seems like once a month, I am moving things around in my budget to see if I can afford to do something. Speaking of SEO, this brings me to number 4.

Number 4: SEO is A Lot of Work

Understanding SEO (search engine optimization) is a lot of work. I know everyone talks about how easy it is, but I’m like easy for whom when I see that. I still have a lot of work to do when it comes to that. Now granted, I have only been blogging for about three months; it’s still challenging in a way. My advice would be to take your time, which I know is not easy to do when you think about the money you’re spending. You want to be the SEO pro right away, and that is not how it works.

Number 5: Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day

Of course, you want to make money right away. I mean, who doesn’t? I, for one, would be happy to go to sleep and just wake up to seeing that my blog has made $5,000 during the night. That’s the thing though, it doesn’t work like that. If you want to make money blogging, one of the things that you need to know is it could take a while for Google to notice you. Gaining organic traffic is not as easy as the flick of the wrist. As I stated, take your time to work on your content. It’ll all fall into place.

Keep in Mind

Blogging can be very rewarding. For those who love to write, it can be a form of release. Please don’t read this blog thinking I am an expert because I am far from it. I am learning just like the next person.

“A man that knows something knows that he knows nothing at all.”

-Erykah Badu

Or, in this case, a woman because I can say that I don’t know everything when it comes to blogging. Honestly, I can probably point out to you 5 things I know for sure that isn’t perfect about my blog. I know I am not an excellent blogger. Hey, you might see a few grammatical mistakes here and there.

Some might say I blog how I talk, but that’s to make it personal I want my readers to feel like I am sitting in front of you all having a regular conversation. I am blogging to give women an outlet to let them know they aren’t alone in how they feel. In my blog, you might see a day out with my little one or an interview with someone I know. You might catch me giving some exclusives on things that I use and like in my household. I hope that you, as a reader, are here with me enjoying this ride as we go through motherhood and life to go with it.
