Congratulations! If you’re reading this, then that means you’re pregnant, or you’ve just had your baby. Some of you are doing baby shower registries or just buying things yourself and don’t know what to get. Well, you’re in luck! I am here to give you some essential items that you will need and some links to them.
Before I go any further, I have mentioned this before, but I want to reiterate this. Every check you get around the second trimester, you should buy a box of diapers and a box of wipes so that you won’t have to buy any during your maternity leave. You start by purchasing a newborn package, then you keep going up in size. When I first had my child, I didn’t need to buy diapers until she was almost 1 because I did this hack.
The First Important Buy
I would say that the thing that helped me out a whole lot was a nasal aspirator. Now the one that I had, I sucked out her nose myself. I know it sounds nasty, but the baby’s snot actually never touches your mouth, and it gets it out better than the bulb. Now they have electronic nasal aspirators. (They might have always had them, but I didn’t know about it then) The link for it is here.
One of the best things about this aspirator is that there are no batteries. You plug it in the wall to charge it. It has three different settings for suction levels and two separate tips, one for newborns and the other for older children.
Second Important Buy
The second thing that is a great buy is burp cloths. I always say that you can never have too many burp cloths. I still use them today as a hanker-chief or as a napkin. Babies throw up all the time, so it’s nice to pick up another one once the baby has thrown up over the last one. You also use them to protect your baby from your clothes to not break them out. Whatever the reason you might use it for the bottom line again is that you can never have too many, and they can grow with your child. The link for them is here. These particular ones here are white, but they come in many different colors on the website, such as; pink or blue.
The Final Most Important Thing
This next buy is significant because it is a baby laundry detergent. I would wash everything literally with my baby laundry detergent. I mean everything from my clothes to all of the sheets and covers. That is important because if you should happen to run out of burp cloths, the baby can be on your clothes without worrying about breakouts. Also, (this probably goes without saying) make sure that after you buy the clothes, you wash the baby’s clothes before you put them on the baby. The brand that was best for my family was Dreft (find the link for it here)
These things mentioned above are crucial when expecting your little bundle of joy. Of course, it goes without saying the honorable mentions you will also need are a diaper bag, a baby carrier, and some baby bottles. I just want to let you know that some babies do have a preference for what kind of bottles they like.
We as mothers feel the need to have some things, but they aren’t as important. I thought maybe I should add this in because I know when my child was a newborn, there were things that I felt were useful, but as time went on, I didn’t really care for them, or I just didn’t use them as much. Although when I was pregnant, I felt like I had to have everything correction, she had to have everything. This is not to say that the product sucked, but it was just an extra step that was not needed in my day. Nonetheless, I will list and share with you all the links just in case you want them because some people need to make up their own minds. You never know. You just might like them for your household.
I love the idea of diaper pails; I genuinely do. The idea of not having to leave the room and throwing away all of the dirty diapers in a pail. Especially when it doesn’t make the room stink is fantastic, right? When I got the diaper pail for my baby shower, I was so excited I couldn’t wait to use it. The things about it, though, it just wasn’t giving what it was supposed to give (haha). If you know what I mean.
There was definitely an expectation versus reality going on for me, at least. This might not be the same for you all. This is just my experience with it. I am providing you with links because you might think it will be an excellent buy for you. For me, it seemed like it was doing too much to even put the bag in the pail. I mean, really, and by the time I got through fussing with it, I would have been placed the diaper in the trash by then. Although if and when I have another child, I am sure that I want to give it another try. You can find the link for the pail I had here.
This is another thing that just didn’t make sense for me to keep spending my money on. Don’t get me wrong, the wipes were soft for my child’s face, and they were beneficial to just pull them out and wipe her nose and face. The thing is, I just didn’t see the value to keep spending money on it when I could have just used wipes on her face, and they worked just fine. Unlike the diaper pail, if I have another child, I don’t think I will repurchase this. Click here if you would like to buy some to try for yourself.
At the End of the Day
Lastly, if you’ve read my previous blog called Breastfeeding, you know that you may qualify for a free breast pump with your insurance. Which I feel is essential no matter if you are going to exclusively breastfeed or not. Things happen you might have to make a run somewhere without your baby, or for those working mothers, you will have it and not have to worry about it when the time comes to go back to work. Again to all my new mothers out there, I just want to congratulate you all. This is not an easy journey, but you will get through it, and it does get easier. What things did you get for your child that you feel are important or not? Comment below.
